This table provides detailed information on the quantities and values of zinc-bearing ores, slag, and ash exported from the United States to various countries and localities. Tracking these exports is crucial for understanding the U.S. role in the global zinc supply chain, which supports industries such as galvanizing, alloy production, and chemical manufacturing. The data also reflect market demand, trade relationships, and economic health in both the U.S. and importing countries, influencing decisions in mining, processing, and trade policy.
Analysis of the 2023 data reveals several notable trends. Exports of zinc ores and concentrates remained relatively stable in quantity at 641,000 metric tons, a slight decrease from 644,000 metric tons in 2022, but the total value dropped significantly from $1.53 billion to $973 million, indicating a decline in zinc prices or changes in product quality. Canada continues to be the largest importer by quantity, receiving 247,000 metric tons valued at $367 million, followed by Australia, which saw a substantial increase in quantity from 19,300 to 63,500 metric tons and value rising to $92.4 million. Conversely, China’s imports fell sharply from 49,400 to 29,200 metric tons, with value decreasing from $103 million to $45 million. For slag, ash, and residues, total exports remained steady in quantity around 39,600 metric tons, but value decreased from $82.2 million to $68.9 million. India was the top destination in this category, increasing exports from 11,200 to 15,200 metric tons and maintaining a high value of $27.3 million. These shifts highlight changing global demand patterns and pricing dynamics in the zinc materials market.
