U.S. Exports Of Zinc Metal Products, By Country Or Locality

Home > Minerals > Zinc

This table presents detailed data on the quantities and values of zinc metal products exported from the United States to various countries and localities. It categorizes exports by product type, including unwrought unalloyed zinc, unwrought zinc alloys, waste and scrap, dust, powders, flakes, bars, rods, profiles, wire, and plates, sheets, strip, and foil. Understanding these export patterns is crucial for assessing the U.S. zinc industry's role in global markets, gauging demand from key trading partners, and informing economic and industrial policy decisions related to supply chains, trade balances, and resource management.

Analysis of the 2023 data reveals several notable trends compared to 2022. Total exports of unwrought unalloyed zinc decreased sharply from 8,070 metric tons valued at $28.3 million to 3,420 metric tons valued at $43.6 million, with Mexico showing a significant drop in quantity from 2,840 to 1,090 metric tons but a striking increase in value to $36.2 million, indicating higher prices or product quality. Exports of unwrought zinc alloys also declined from 44,300 to 35,200 metric tons and from $124 million to $113 million in value, with Canada and Mexico remaining the top destinations. The most dramatic change occurred in waste and scrap exports, which plummeted from 190,000 metric tons worth $183 million to just 43,900 metric tons valued at $52.6 million, with Malaysia’s exports falling from 99,100 to 7,800 metric tons. Dust, powders, and flakes exports dropped from 10,600 to 7,400 metric tons and from $51.7 million to $35.8 million, while bars, rods, profiles, and wire exports decreased from 3,220 to 2,230 metric tons and from $21.2 million to $10.5 million. Plates, sheets, strip, and foil exports remained relatively stable in quantity but saw a slight decrease in value. These shifts highlight changing demand dynamics and possibly evolving trade policies or market conditions affecting U.S. zinc product exports.
