U.S. Imports For Consumption Of Miscellaneous Vanadium Chemicals

Home > Minerals > Vanadium

This table presents detailed data on the quantities, vanadium content, and values of various miscellaneous vanadium chemicals imported into the United States from multiple countries during 2022 and 2023. These chemicals include chloride oxides, hydrides and nitrides, sulfates, vanadates, and vanadium chlorides, each playing a critical role in industries such as steel manufacturing, chemical production, and energy storage. Tracking these imports is essential for understanding supply chain dynamics, assessing market demand, and supporting economic planning in sectors reliant on vanadium compounds.

Analysis of the data reveals several notable trends between 2022 and 2023. Imports of chloride oxides and chloride hydroxides from Colombia surged significantly, with gross weight increasing from 132,000 kilograms in 2022 to 582,000 kilograms in 2023, while vanadium content rose from 82,400 to 363,000 kilograms, reflecting a substantial expansion in supply from this source. Conversely, Japan, a previous supplier in this category, reported no imports in 2023. Hydrides and nitrides imports decreased overall, with total gross weight dropping from 436,000 kilograms in 2022 to 306,000 kilograms in 2023, and total value declining from $3.63 million to $2.01 million, although Austria emerged as a new supplier in 2023 with 398 kilograms imported. Sulfate imports fell dramatically, from 127,000 kilograms in 2022 to just 2,650 kilograms in 2023, primarily due to the absence of Finnish shipments in the latter year. Vanadates also saw a sharp decline in volume, from 174,000 kilograms to 39,800 kilograms, despite a notable increase in imports from China, which rose from 5,600 to 30,000 kilograms. Finally, vanadium chlorides experienced a remarkable increase in both quantity and value, with gross weight more than doubling from 68,500 kilograms in 2022 to 161,000 kilograms in 2023, and value nearly quadrupling from $1.54 million to $5.73 million, driven largely by increased imports from Switzerland and Japan. These shifts highlight evolving trade patterns and changing supplier landscapes in the U.S. vanadium chemical market.
