U.S. Imports For Consumption Of Ammonium Paratungstate, By Country Or Locality

Home > Minerals > Tungsten

This table presents detailed data on the quantity and value of ammonium paratungstate imported into the United States from various countries or localities. Ammonium paratungstate is a critical intermediate in the production of tungsten metal and its compounds, which are essential for manufacturing hard metals, electronics, and various industrial applications. Tracking import volumes and values helps assess supply chain dynamics, market demand, and economic reliance on foreign sources for this strategic mineral.

In 2021, the total tungsten content of ammonium paratungstate imported into the U.S. slightly decreased to 1,040 metric tons from 1,080 metric tons in 2020, while the total import value remained relatively stable at $29.1 million compared to $29.0 million the previous year. China continued to be the largest supplier, although its tungsten content imports declined from 670 metric tons in 2020 to 552 metric tons in 2021, with a marginal decrease in value from $19.9 million to $19.5 million. Conversely, imports from Germany increased both in volume and value, rising from 408 metric tons valued at $9.13 million in 2020 to 473 metric tons worth $9.41 million in 2021. Notably, the Philippines emerged as a new source in 2021, contributing 12 metric tons valued at $226,000, indicating diversification in supply sources.
