U.S. Exports Of Tin In Various Forms

Home > Minerals > Tin

This table presents detailed data on the quantities and values of tin exports from the United States in various physical forms, including unwrought refined tin, tin alloys, wrought products such as bars, foil, plates, tubes, flakes, waste, and tinplate. Tracking these exports is crucial for understanding the role of tin in U.S. trade and industry, as tin is a key metal used in electronics, soldering, plating, and alloy production. The data provide insights into market demand, supply chain dynamics, and the economic impact of tin-related manufacturing and recycling sectors.

Analyzing the data from 2022 to 2023 reveals several notable trends. Overall, the quantity of refined tin exports decreased from 1,310 metric tons to 918 metric tons, with a corresponding value drop from $31.3 million to $24.5 million, indicating reduced demand or supply constraints. Conversely, tin alloys saw an increase in quantity from 531 to 652 metric tons, though their value slightly declined from $14.1 million to $13.9 million. Wrought tin bars, rods, profiles, and wire exports remained relatively stable in quantity, decreasing marginally from 7,250 to 7,230 metric tons, but their value fell from $56 million to $52.4 million. Significant declines occurred in tin foil and tin plates, with foil exports dropping sharply from 93 to 27 metric tons and plates from 881 to 455 metric tons, accompanied by substantial value reductions. However, tin waste and scrap exports increased notably from 30,300 to 38,000 metric tons, though their value slightly decreased from $41.5 million to $37.8 million. Tinplate and ternplate exports remained the largest category by quantity, with a slight decline from 101,000 to 99,100 metric tons, and a more pronounced value decrease from $120 million to $102 million. These shifts suggest changing industrial demands and possibly evolving recycling practices within the tin market.
