This table presents yearend stock data for tin held by the U.S. industry, encompassing primary and secondary pig tin raw materials, tin in process, and additional pig tin held by jobbers-importers and afloat to the United States. Tracking these stocks is crucial for understanding supply chain dynamics, assessing market availability, and anticipating potential price fluctuations. Since tin is a vital metal used extensively in electronics, soldering, and plating, monitoring inventory levels helps stakeholders gauge industry health and readiness to meet manufacturing demand.
Between 2022 and 2023, total plant raw material stocks of pig tin increased notably from 8,950 metric tons to 10,600 metric tons, driven primarily by a rise in primary tin stocks from 8,310 to 9,950 metric tons. Secondary tin stocks saw a slight decline from 29 to 24 metric tons, while tin in process rose modestly from 612 to 650 metric tons. Additional pig tin stocks, which include holdings by jobbers-importers and shipments afloat to the U.S., more than doubled from 223 to 552 metric tons. Overall, the grand total of yearend tin stocks climbed from 9,180 to 11,200 metric tons, indicating a significant buildup of inventory that could reflect either increased domestic production, slower consumption, or strategic stockpiling in response to market conditions.
