This table presents detailed information on the production quantities and values of key nonfuel raw minerals extracted in Puerto Rico over the three-year period from 2019 to 2021. These minerals, including portland cement, salt, lime, and crushed stone, are essential inputs for various industrial and construction activities, making their production data critical for assessing the economic health and industrial capacity of the region. Tracking these figures helps policymakers, industry stakeholders, and analysts understand trends in resource availability, market demand, and potential areas for investment or regulatory focus.
Analysis of the data reveals notable fluctuations in production and value over the examined period. Portland cement production declined significantly from 510 thousand metric tons in 2019 to 330 thousand metric tons in 2021, although the specific value figures are withheld to protect proprietary information. Salt production remained steady at 45 thousand metric tons annually, maintaining a consistent value of $1.85 million each year. Crushed stone production showed a rebound after a dip in 2020, increasing from 4,850 thousand metric tons to 5,340 thousand metric tons in 2021, with its value rising accordingly from $47.5 million to $60.8 million. Overall, the total reported value of nonfuel raw mineral production increased from $49.3 million in 2020 to $62.6 million in 2021, indicating a recovery and growth in the sector following the pandemic-related downturn.

1Includes data from the mineral commodity chapters published in the U.S. Geological Survey 2021 Minerals Yearbook as they were completed and released through January 2025.
2Production as measured by mine shipments, sales, or marketable production (including consumption by producers). Mine output measured as sold or used by the producers is primarily shown in the tables, because values can be assigned. Where sold or used data are not available, actual mine output is used as the production measurement and value is estimated average price of the mineral commodity for that year.
3Data are rounded to no more than three significant digits; may not add to totals shown.
4Withheld to avoid disclosing company proprietary data.
5Does not include construction sand and gravel data, which were unavailable.
