U.S. Exports Of Silver, By Country Or Locality

Home > Minerals > Silver

This table presents detailed data on the quantities and values of various forms of silver exported from the United States to different countries and localities. It categorizes exports into other unwrought silver, metal powder, silver nitrate, semimanufactured forms, and waste and scrap, providing both gross weight in kilograms and corresponding values in thousands of dollars. This information is crucial for understanding the U.S. silver trade balance, assessing demand in international markets, and evaluating the economic impact of silver exports on domestic industries such as manufacturing, electronics, and jewelry production.

In 2023, the total U.S. exports of silver amounted to 15.6 million kilograms of waste and scrap valued at $3.02 billion, with significant shipments also in metal powder (505,000 kg, $408 million) and silver nitrate (766,000 kg, $22.1 million). Canada emerged as a top destination, receiving 165,000 kg of other unwrought silver valued at $139 million and a substantial 738,000 kg of silver nitrate worth $4.58 million. Belgium and Germany also featured prominently, with Belgium importing 2.28 million kg of waste and scrap valued at $121 million and Germany receiving 3.28 million kg of waste and scrap valued at $381 million. Notably, the United Kingdom imported 716,000 kg of waste and scrap valued at $569 million, underscoring its role as a major silver processing hub. The data reveal a strong preference for exporting silver in waste and scrap form, which accounts for the largest volume and value, reflecting the global demand for recycled silver materials in various industrial applications.
