Analysis of the data reveals a significant decline in total silicon metal imports for consumption in 2023 compared to 2022, with gross weight dropping from approximately 121,000 metric tons to 80,300 metric tons, and the associated value decreasing from $732 million to $434 million. Notably, imports of the highest purity silicon (more than 99.99% silicon) fell from 3,750 metric tons to 2,540 metric tons. Brazil and China, major suppliers in this category, saw reductions in volume, with Brazil’s imports decreasing from 1,780 to 1,260 metric tons and China’s from 372 to 95 metric tons.
