This table presents detailed data on the quantities and values of salt exported from the United States to various countries and localities for the years 2022 and 2023. Tracking these exports is important for understanding the economic impact of the salt industry, which plays a critical role in numerous industrial applications such as chemical manufacturing, food processing, and water treatment. The data also provide insights into international trade patterns and demand dynamics, helping policymakers and industry stakeholders make informed decisions regarding production, trade policies, and market development.
Analysis of the data reveals a substantial increase in both the quantity and value of U.S. salt exports from 2022 to 2023. Total export volume rose from 886 thousand metric tons in 2022 to 2,260 thousand metric tons in 2023, while the total value increased from $184 million to $235 million. Canada stands out as the largest importer, with exports surging from 795 thousand metric tons valued at $77.4 million in 2022 to 2,190 thousand metric tons worth $145 million in 2023. Conversely, exports to China declined sharply in quantity from 17 to 3 thousand metric tons and in value from $34.2 million to $18.3 million. Other notable trends include a decrease in exports to Belgium and Mexico, while countries like the Dominican Republic and Ireland saw modest increases in export quantities and values. These shifts highlight evolving trade relationships and demand fluctuations in the global salt market.
