This table presents detailed data on the quantities and values of rhenium exports from the United States, categorized by country or locality and by form—unwrought, waste and scrap, and powders. Rhenium is a critical metal used primarily in high-temperature superalloys for jet engines, as well as in catalysts and electrical contacts, making its trade data economically significant. Understanding export patterns helps gauge the demand dynamics and supply chain flows of this rare metal, which is essential for aerospace, automotive, and chemical industries. Tracking these exports by destination also provides insights into international market relationships and potential shifts in global consumption.
The data reveal a substantial increase in total rhenium exports from 267 kilograms valued at $71.4 million in 2022 to 2,010 kilograms valued at $830,000 in 2023. Notably, Germany remained a top destination, with exports rising from 253 kilograms worth $60.4 million in 2022 to 870 kilograms valued at $387,000 in 2023, indicating a significant volume increase but a sharp decline in value, suggesting possible price fluctuations or changes in product grade. France and Switzerland emerged as new significant importers in 2023, receiving 420 and 371 kilograms respectively, whereas Canada’s exports dropped dramatically from 11 kilograms valued at $3.44 million to 35 kilograms valued at only $13,000. The appearance of exports to countries like China, Czechia, Italy, Korea, and the United Kingdom in 2023, where none were recorded in 2022, points to a diversification of export markets. Overall, the data suggest evolving trade patterns and potential shifts in the global demand and pricing structure for rhenium.
