This table presents data on global production of marketable potash, measured in thousand metric tons of K2O equivalent, broken down by country or locality from 2020 through 2024. Potash is a critical mineral primarily used as a fertilizer to enhance crop yields, making it essential for global agriculture and food security. Tracking production volumes by country provides insight into supply dynamics, trade flows, and the economic health of the potash industry, which in turn influences fertilizer prices and availability worldwide.
The data reveals that Canada remains the leading producer, maintaining a relatively stable output around 14,000 thousand metric tons annually, with a slight increase to an estimated 14,394 thousand metric tons in 2024. Russia shows a notable recovery after a sharp decline in 2022, rebounding from 5,930 thousand metric tons to an estimated 10,000 thousand metric tons in 2024, indicating a significant resurgence in production. Belarus experienced a dramatic drop in 2022 to 3,694 thousand metric tons from 8,000 thousand metric tons in 2021 but is projected to partially recover to 5,000 thousand metric tons in 2024. Laos stands out with rapid growth, more than quadrupling its output from 432 thousand metric tons in 2020 to an estimated 2,400 thousand metric tons in 2024. Overall, world production is forecasted to reach 46,700 thousand metric tons in 2024, surpassing the previous peak of 46,100 thousand metric tons in 2021, reflecting a general recovery and expansion in potash supply after the 2022 downturn.
