U.S. Exports Of Potash, By Type

Home > Minerals > Potash

This table presents detailed data on the quantities and values of different types of potash exported from the United States, categorized by their chemical composition and principal destination countries. Potash, primarily used as a fertilizer, is critical to the agricultural sector, influencing crop yields and food production worldwide. Tracking export volumes and values by type provides insight into market demand, trade relationships, and the economic impact of U.S. potash production on both domestic and international markets.

Analysis of the data reveals that total potash exports remained relatively stable from 2023 to 2024, with a slight decrease in gross weight from 439,000 metric tons to 436,000 metric tons. However, the value of exports increased from $178 million to $190 million, indicating a rise in unit prices or a shift toward higher-value products. Potassium chloride exports declined by 27,000 metric tons to 104,000 metric tons, but its export value rose from $36.6 million to $39.2 million, reflecting stronger prices or demand. Potassium sulfate exports increased modestly by 22,000 metric tons to 323,000 metric tons, with value also rising to $142 million. Potassium nitrate exports showed growth in both quantity and value, reaching 8,780 metric tons and $9.27 million, respectively. Notably, Canada, Mexico, and Brazil emerged as the top destinations in 2024, with Canada maintaining a 24% share of total exports, Mexico increasing to 20%, and Brazil rising to 15%, signaling shifting trade dynamics in the Americas and expanding markets for U.S. potash products.
