This table presents detailed information on the quantity and value of elemental phosphorus exported from the United States to various countries during 2022 and 2023. Elemental phosphorus is a critical industrial material used primarily in the production of fertilizers, chemicals, and other phosphorus-containing compounds essential for agriculture and manufacturing. Tracking export data provides insight into the demand for this resource in international markets, the economic impact on the U.S. phosphorus industry, and the country’s role in the global supply chain.
In 2023, the total quantity of elemental phosphorus exported decreased to 14 thousand metric tons from 16 thousand metric tons in 2022, reflecting a modest decline in volume. However, despite the lower quantity, the total export value increased from $64.9 million to $70.1 million, indicating a rise in unit prices or changes in market dynamics. Brazil remained the largest importer, receiving 11 thousand metric tons valued at $57.2 million, slightly down in volume but up significantly in value compared to the previous year’s 12 thousand metric tons worth $50.7 million. Canada’s imports held steady at 2 thousand metric tons, with a small increase in value from $6.8 million to $7.1 million. Germany saw a reduction in both quantity and value, dropping from 2 thousand metric tons valued at $6.8 million to 1 thousand metric ton valued at $5.5 million. The "Other" category remained minimal in volume but decreased in value from $603,000 to $361,000. These trends suggest shifting demand patterns and pricing fluctuations in key export markets.
