This table presents detailed information on the quantities and values of expanded perlite sold or used by producers in the United States, categorized by various end uses. The data highlights the economic and industrial significance of expanded perlite across multiple sectors, including construction, horticulture, filtration, and insulation. Tracking these figures is crucial for understanding market demand, production trends, and pricing dynamics, which in turn inform industry stakeholders, policymakers, and investors about the health and direction of the perlite market.
Analysis of the 2023 and 2024 data reveals several notable trends. Total expanded perlite usage increased from 479,000 metric tons in 2023 to 513,000 metric tons in 2024, with the total value rising from $203 million to $216 million. The concrete aggregate sector saw a substantial quantity increase from 6,540 to 7,880 metric tons, accompanied by a slight decrease in average unit value from $401 to $390 per metric ton. Filter aid remains the largest single use by quantity, growing from 67,300 metric tons in 2023 to 79,500 metric tons in 2024, with its value increasing from $34.8 million to $40.6 million. Formed products maintained a steady volume around 220,000 metric tons but experienced a slight decline in value from $59.1 million to $57.5 million. Horticultural aggregate usage remained stable near 75,000 metric tons, while low-temperature insulation showed a notable rise in quantity from 1,830 to 2,520 metric tons, though its value per ton slightly decreased. The “Unspecified and other” category also grew significantly in both quantity and value, indicating diversification or increased reporting in miscellaneous applications. Overall, these shifts reflect growing demand in key sectors and evolving market conditions for expanded perlite in the United States.
