U.S. Exports Of Molybdenum Products, By Product And Country Or Locality

Home > Minerals > Molybdenum

This table provides detailed information on the quantities and values of molybdenum products exported from the United States, categorized by product type and destination country or locality. The data encompasses several key molybdenum product categories, including oxides and hydroxides, molybdates, ferromolybdenum, and other molybdenum forms such as powder and scrap. Tracking these exports is economically and industrially significant because molybdenum is a critical metal used primarily in steel alloys to enhance strength, corrosion resistance, and high-temperature performance. Understanding export trends helps gauge international demand, informs trade policy, and supports strategic planning for industries reliant on molybdenum.

Analysis of the 2023 export data reveals several notable trends. Total exports of oxides and hydroxides decreased substantially from 2,630 metric tons valued at $34.1 million in 2022 to 1,170 metric tons valued at $29.3 million in 2023. Canada emerged as the leading destination for this product category, with exports more than doubling in quantity from 101 to 243 metric tons and increasing in value from $1.57 million to $6.79 million. Conversely, India saw a significant decline in oxides and hydroxides exports, dropping from 1,690 to 658 metric tons, though the value rose slightly to $11.4 million. Molybdates exports increased in value from $41.1 million to $48 million despite a quantity decrease from 2,000 to 1,670 metric tons, driven by higher exports to China, which rose from 885 to 991 metric tons and $21.3 million to $31 million in value. Ferromolybdenum exports more than doubled in quantity and value, from 190 metric tons ($6.34 million) to 343 metric tons ($14.3 million), with Canada and Mexico as principal recipients. The “other molybdenum” category also showed growth, with exports increasing from 918 to 1,510 metric tons and values rising from $51.4 million to $56.7 million, notably with Brazil’s exports surging from 27 to 635 metric tons and $1.54 million to $7.73 million in value. These shifts highlight dynamic changes in global demand and trade flows for molybdenum products.
