U.S. Imports For Consumption Of Mica Powder And Waste, By Country Or Locality

Home > Minerals > Mica

This table presents detailed data on the quantities and values of mica powder and waste imported into the United States from various countries and localities. This information is critical for understanding the supply chain dynamics of mica, a mineral widely used in industries such as electronics, cosmetics, and construction due to its insulating and reflective properties. Tracking import volumes and values helps stakeholders monitor market trends, assess dependency on foreign sources, and make informed decisions regarding trade policies and domestic production strategies.

In 2023, the total imports of mica powder decreased to 18,200 metric tons, valued at $12.5 million, down from 21,000 metric tons and $15.2 million in 2022, indicating a notable reduction in both volume and value. Waste mica imports also declined significantly to 405 metric tons valued at $391,000, compared to 688 metric tons and $604,000 the previous year. Canada and China remain the top suppliers of mica powder, with imports of 7,150 and 7,770 metric tons respectively, together accounting for the majority of the total volume. India is the only country reporting significant imports of mica waste in 2023, with 368 metric tons valued at $352,000. The absence of powder imports from Brazil and the overall decline in total imports may reflect shifting market conditions or supply chain adjustments.
