U.S. Exports Of Magnesium, By Country Or Locality

Home > Minerals > Magnesium

This table presents detailed information on the quantities and values of magnesium exports from the United States to various countries and localities, categorized by product form including waste and scrap, metal, alloys, and powder, sheets, tubing, ribbons, wire, and other forms. This data is crucial for understanding the role of magnesium in international trade, reflecting both the demand for U.S.-produced magnesium products and the economic relationships between the U.S. and its trading partners. Magnesium is a lightweight metal widely used in industries such as automotive, aerospace, electronics, and construction, making these export figures significant indicators of industrial activity and market trends.

Analysis of the data reveals a notable decline in total magnesium exports from 2022 to 2023, with the overall quantity dropping from 6,696 metric tons to 11,565 metric tons and total value decreasing from approximately $78.4 million to $66.1 million. Canada remains the top destination by volume and value, although its exports decreased from 6,466 metric tons valued at $46.5 million in 2022 to 3,181 metric tons valued at $19.9 million in 2023, particularly with reductions in metal and alloy forms. Singapore continues to be a major importer of magnesium metal, with values remaining high at $8.14 million in 2023 despite a slight decrease in quantity. China showed an increase in exports of alloys and powder forms, with alloy quantities rising from 1 metric ton to 143 metric tons and values increasing accordingly. Other countries such as France and the United Kingdom experienced shifts in export composition, with France’s powder and sheet exports increasing significantly in value. These trends highlight shifting demand patterns and possible changes in production or trade policies impacting U.S. magnesium exports.
