Lime Sold Or Used By Producers In The United States, By U.S. Census Bureau Regions

Home > Minerals > Lime

This table presents detailed data on the quantities and values of lime sold or used by producers across various U.S. Census Bureau regions. It distinguishes between hydrated lime and quicklime, providing insight into regional production volumes and their economic significance. This information is crucial for understanding the distribution of lime production, a key industrial mineral used in construction, steel manufacturing, environmental applications, and chemical processes. Tracking these figures helps stakeholders assess market trends, regional demand, and the economic impact of lime production within the United States.

Analysis of the 2023 data reveals a total production of 16 million metric tons of lime, valued at approximately $3.07 billion, marking a slight decrease in quantity from 17 million metric tons in 2022 but an increase in overall value. The Midwest remains the dominant region, accounting for 41% of total production with 6.57 million metric tons and 39% of the total value at $1.2 billion. Notably, the East South Central region saw a modest decline in quantity from 3.56 to 3.23 million metric tons but maintained a strong market value of $649 million. The West South Central region experienced a significant value increase to $473 million despite a slight drop in volume. Overall, while total lime production decreased by about 6%, the value rose by 15%, indicating higher prices or shifts in product mix across regions.
