U.S. Imports For Consumption Of Lead Pigments And Compounds, By Kind

Home > Minerals > Lead

This table presents detailed statistics on the quantities and values of various lead pigments and compounds imported into the United States for consumption. These materials are critical in numerous industrial applications, including paint manufacturing, glass production, and chemical processes. Tracking import data helps gauge domestic demand, supply chain dynamics, and market trends, which are essential for policymakers, manufacturers, and environmental regulators given the health and safety considerations associated with lead use.

Analysis of the data from 2021 to 2022 reveals several notable trends. Imports of white lead carbonate increased from 7 to 12 metric tons, with a corresponding value rise from $27,000 to $41,000, indicating a modest growth in demand. Conversely, red and orange lead imports declined sharply from 18 to 10 metric tons, and their value dropped from $142,000 to $69,000, suggesting reduced consumption or substitution by alternative materials. Chrome yellow and related pigments saw a slight decrease in quantity from 643 to 608 metric tons but maintained a stable value around $4.57 million. Litharge imports increased marginally from 1,310 to 1,340 metric tons, with value rising from $4.13 million to $4.57 million. The largest category, glass frits, remained relatively steady in quantity, increasing slightly from 44,300 to 44,500 metric tons, while value grew from $125 million to $135 million, underscoring its significant role in the market. Overall, these shifts reflect evolving industrial needs and market conditions for lead-based compounds in the U.S. economy.
