U.S. Imports For Consumption Of Iron Oxide And Iron Hydroxide Pigments, By Country Or Locality

Home > Minerals > Iron Oxide Pigments

This table presents detailed data on the quantities and customs values of natural and synthetic iron oxide and iron hydroxide pigments imported into the United States from various countries and localities for the years 2022 and 2023. These pigments are essential raw materials widely used in industries such as coatings, plastics, construction, and cosmetics due to their coloring properties and chemical stability. Tracking import volumes and values helps stakeholders understand supply chain dynamics, market trends, and economic dependencies on foreign sources, which is crucial for policy-making, trade negotiations, and industrial planning.

Analysis of the data reveals a notable decline in natural pigment imports, dropping from 2,470 metric tons valued at $2.3 million in 2022 to 1,750 metric tons valued at $2.33 million in 2023. Conversely, synthetic pigment imports increased significantly, rising from 222,000 metric tons valued at $344 million in 2022 to 112,000 metric tons valued at $154 million in 2023. China remains the dominant supplier of synthetic pigments, although its quantity decreased from 107,000 metric tons in 2022 to 48,700 metric tons in 2023, with a corresponding value drop from $139 million to $58.7 million. Germany also stands out as a major source, with synthetic pigment imports increasing from 63,400 metric tons valued at $136 million in 2022 to 32,100 metric tons valued at $49.2 million in 2023. Other countries such as Brazil and India show mixed trends, with Brazil’s synthetic pigment imports nearly doubling in quantity from 7,990 to 16,100 metric tons, while India’s synthetic imports remained relatively stable. Overall, the data indicates shifting patterns in sourcing and consumption of these pigments, reflecting broader market and economic influences.
