World Primary Indium Production Capacity

Home > Minerals > Indium

This table presents the estimated annual production capacity of primary indium by country, major operating companies, and their main facility locations. Indium is a critical metal widely used in electronics, particularly for manufacturing touchscreens, LCDs, and semiconductors, making its production capacity a key indicator of supply potential and industrial capability. Understanding global production capacity helps stakeholders assess market availability, potential supply risks, and the geographic distribution of indium resources, which are vital for economic planning and technological development.

The data reveals that China dominates the global primary indium production capacity with numerous facilities spread across Guangxi, Liaoning, Hunan, Jiangsu, Yunnan, and Guangdong provinces. Notably, Nanjing Germanium Co. Ltd. leads with two facilities each estimated at 150 metric tons capacity, contributing significantly to China’s overall capacity. South Korea follows as a major producer, with Korea Zinc Co. Ltd. and Young Poong Corp. having capacities of 200 and 110 metric tons, respectively, making Korea the country with the highest single-company capacity. Other notable producers include Canada’s Teck Resources Ltd. at 70 metric tons and Belgium’s Umicore N.V-S.A. at 50 metric tons. Some facilities, such as Japan’s Mitsui Mining and Smelter Co. Ltd. and Sumitomo Metal Mining Co. Ltd., have unavailable capacity data, while Russia’s OAO Urals Mining and Metallurgical Co. was not operational in 2024. Overall, the table underscores a concentrated production landscape with China and South Korea as leading contributors to the world’s primary indium supply.
