This table presents detailed statistics on the United States' foreign trade in gypsum and gypsum products, including crude gypsum, plasters, boards, and other related articles. The data covers both exports and imports, measured in thousand metric tons and thousand dollars, providing insight into the volume and value of these transactions. This information is critical for understanding the economic and industrial dynamics of the gypsum sector, which plays a vital role in construction, manufacturing, and other industries. Tracking trade flows helps policymakers and businesses assess market demand, supply chain dependencies, and the competitiveness of U.S. gypsum products in the global market.
Analysis of the 2023 data reveals notable increases in both exports and imports compared to 2022. Exports rose from 280,000 thousand dollars to 303,000 thousand dollars, driven primarily by growth in boards exports, which increased from 628 to 700 thousand metric tons and from 118,000 to 133,000 thousand dollars in value. Crude gypsum exports also grew modestly in quantity and value. On the import side, there was a significant rise in crude gypsum imports from 6,870 to 7,770 thousand metric tons and in value from 129,000 to 155,000 thousand dollars. Imports of plasters nearly doubled in quantity from 29 to 50 thousand metric tons, with a corresponding value increase from 12,200 to 16,900 thousand dollars. Boards imports showed a smaller increase in quantity and value. Overall, total imports increased from 432,000 to 487,000 thousand dollars, reflecting growing domestic demand for gypsum products and raw materials.
