Leading Gold-Producing Operations In The United States In 2023, In Order Of Publicly Available Output

Home > Minerals > Gold

This table presents the leading gold-producing operations in the United States for the year 2023, ranked by their publicly reported output in kilograms. It highlights key mining sites, their geographic locations, majority ownership, and production figures for both 2022 and 2023. This data is critical for understanding the domestic gold mining landscape, which plays a significant role in the U.S. economy by contributing to employment, regional development, and the supply of a valuable commodity used in various industrial applications, including electronics, jewelry, and investment. Tracking production trends also informs policymakers and industry stakeholders about the health and sustainability of the mining sector.

Analysis of the 2023 data reveals that Nevada continues to dominate U.S. gold production, with Nevada Gold Mines LLC operating the top three mines: Carlin Mines Operations (30,400 kg), Cortez Operations (25,100 kg), and Turquoise Ridge (16,000 kg), all showing notable increases from the previous year. For instance, Carlin Mines saw a rise from 27,800 kg in 2022 to 30,400 kg in 2023. Other significant contributors include Kinross Gold Corp.’s Fort Knox mine in Alaska, which maintained steady output around 9,040 kg, and SSR Mining Inc.’s Marigold mine in Nevada, which experienced a substantial increase from 6,060 kg to 8,660 kg. Some operations, such as Betze-Post and Meikle in Nevada, showed declines in production, with Betze-Post dropping from 12,500 kg to 6,500 kg. Overall, the top 25 operations accounted for over 98% of U.S. gold output, underscoring the concentration of production in a few key mines and regions, particularly Nevada and Alaska.
