U.S. Imports For Consumption Of Aluminum Fluoride, By Country Or Locality

Home > Minerals > Fluorspar

This table presents detailed data on the quantities and values of aluminum fluoride imported into the United States from various countries and localities over two consecutive years. This information is crucial for understanding the supply dynamics of aluminum fluoride, a key chemical used primarily in the aluminum smelting process to lower the melting point of alumina and improve energy efficiency. Tracking import sources and volumes helps industry stakeholders and policymakers assess market trends, supply chain dependencies, and potential vulnerabilities in the domestic aluminum production sector.

Analysis of the data reveals that total imports increased from 21,200 metric tons valued at $30.8 million in 2022 to 25,200 metric tons worth $37.1 million in 2023, indicating a growing demand or supply shift. Mexico remains the largest supplier by a significant margin, with imports rising sharply from 12,700 to 18,300 metric tons and value increasing from $21.7 million to $28.8 million. Canada, the second-largest source, experienced a decline in both quantity and value, dropping from 7,350 to 5,240 metric tons and $8.0 million to $5.9 million, respectively. Notably, several countries such as Italy, Lithuania, and Sweden, which had no recorded imports in 2022, contributed meaningful quantities in 2023, with Sweden’s imports surging from 2 to 511 metric tons and Lithuania entering with 320 metric tons. These shifts suggest diversification in sourcing and possibly changing trade relationships or production capacities abroad.
