This table presents detailed data on the quantity and value of fluorspar exported from the United States to various countries and localities for the years 2022 and 2023. Fluorspar, a critical industrial mineral, is essential in the manufacture of hydrofluoric acid, aluminum production, and as a flux in steelmaking. Tracking export trends by destination provides insight into international demand patterns, trade relationships, and the economic health of the U.S. fluorspar industry. This information is valuable for policymakers, industry stakeholders, and analysts monitoring supply chains and global market dynamics.
Analysis of the data reveals a decline in total U.S. fluorspar exports from 24,000 metric tons valued at $3.06 million in 2022 to 20,200 metric tons worth $2.55 million in 2023. Canada remains the largest importer, receiving 16,700 metric tons valued at $2.06 million in 2023, slightly down from 17,400 metric tons and $2.11 million the previous year. Notable shifts include a significant increase in exports to Chile, which nearly doubled in quantity from 109 to 215 metric tons and saw its value rise from $12,200 to $24,100. Conversely, exports to Mexico dropped sharply from 3,390 metric tons valued at $462,000 in 2022 to 854 metric tons worth $115,000 in 2023. New export destinations emerged in 2023, such as India, the Netherlands, Nicaragua, and Peru, indicating diversification in the U.S. fluorspar market despite the overall decrease in export volume and value.
