U.S. Exports Of Ferroalloys

Home > Minerals > Ferroalloys

This table presents detailed data on the United States' exports of various ferroalloys, including bulk and noble categories, for the years 2021 and 2022. It provides figures on gross weight, contained weight, and export value in thousands of dollars. This information is crucial for understanding the economic and industrial significance of ferroalloys, which are essential additives in steelmaking and other metallurgical processes. Tracking export volumes and values helps gauge the health of the U.S. ferroalloy industry, its competitiveness in global markets, and the demand trends for these critical materials in manufacturing and infrastructure sectors.

Analysis of the data reveals that total exports of bulk ferroalloys decreased from 31,000 metric tons in 2021 to 26,200 metric tons in 2022, with the export value dropping from $54.5 million to $45.4 million. Notably, exports of chromium ferroalloys more than doubled in gross weight from 1,690 to 3,640 metric tons for the high-carbon grade, although their value declined from $2.14 million to $3.37 million. Conversely, manganese ferroalloys saw a significant reduction, with total gross weight falling from 14,200 to 5,910 metric tons and value nearly halving from $22.9 million to $12.3 million. Silicon ferroalloys bucked the downward trend, increasing in gross weight from 13,300 to 16,000 metric tons and value from $25.1 million to $28.7 million. Among noble ferroalloys, total exports rose from 15,400 to 18,300 metric tons, though the overall value slightly decreased from $69.2 million to $68 million. Specific shifts include a sharp decline in ferromolybdenum exports from 504 to 190 metric tons and a rise in ferronickel exports from 159 to 284 metric tons. Overall, total U.S. ferroalloy exports decreased in volume from 46,300 to 44,500 metric tons and in value from $124 million to $113 million between 2021 and 2022, reflecting a mixed market performance across different ferroalloy types.
