This table presents comprehensive data on the production, export, import, and apparent consumption of feldspar and nepheline syenite in the United States from 2019 through 2023, along with global production figures. These industrial minerals are critical raw materials used primarily in the manufacture of ceramics, glass, and other applications requiring alumina and silica. Tracking their production and trade flows provides insight into the health and trends of related manufacturing sectors, as well as the country’s position in the global supply chain for these essential minerals.
Analysis of the data reveals that U.S. feldspar production experienced a gradual decline from 500,000 metric tons in 2019 to 460,000 metric tons in 2023, with a corresponding decrease in value from $53.8 million to $49.2 million. Conversely, feldspar exports showed notable volatility, dropping to 2,560 metric tons in 2022 before surging to 7,190 metric tons in 2023, nearly doubling in quantity and more than doubling in value to $2.26 million. Imports of feldspar peaked sharply in 2021 and 2022 at 169,000 and 276,000 metric tons respectively, before falling back to 67,700 metric tons in 2023, indicating fluctuating domestic demand or supply chain adjustments. Nepheline syenite production also declined steadily from 508,000 metric tons in 2019 to 440,000 metric tons in 2023, with value peaking in 2022 at $88.7 million before slightly decreasing in 2023. Apparent consumption of these minerals in the U.S. dropped to 960,000 metric tons in 2023 from a high of 1.2 million metric tons in 2022, reflecting potential shifts in industrial demand. Globally, production reached a peak of 33.6 million metric tons in 2021 but decreased to 29.7 million metric tons in 2023, suggesting worldwide market adjustments impacting supply and demand dynamics.
