This table presents detailed data on the quantity and value of dimension granite sold or used by producers in the United States, categorized by specific end uses such as rough stone, dressed stone, monumental, and curbing applications. This information is critical for understanding the economic impact and industrial demand for dimension granite, which is widely utilized in construction, architectural projects, monuments, and landscaping. Tracking these figures helps stakeholders assess market trends, production efficiency, and the overall health of the dimension stone sector within the broader mining and construction industries.
Analysis of the data reveals that total quantity sold or used increased from 445,000 metric tons in 2021 to 491,000 metric tons in 2022, marking a notable rise in production volume. However, the total value slightly decreased from $108 million to $102 million, suggesting a possible shift in product mix or pricing pressures. Among specific uses, irregular-shaped stone experienced a significant surge in quantity, more than tripling from 15,600 to 49,800 metric tons, with its value rising sharply from $1.2 million to $5.3 million. Monumental dressed stone also saw a substantial increase in quantity, from 18,200 to 29,900 metric tons, and value, from $11.5 million to $15.1 million. Conversely, rough blocks for building and construction showed a modest quantity increase but a decline in value from $41.9 million to $35.2 million. The curbing category saw a decrease in both quantity and value, dropping from 127,000 to 112,000 metric tons and $27.4 million to $15.7 million, respectively. These shifts highlight evolving market demands and potential changes in construction and architectural preferences for dimension granite products.
