This table presents detailed information on the quantity and value of dimension stone sold or used by producers across various states in the United States for the years 2021 and 2022. Dimension stone, which includes natural rock materials cut and finished for construction and architectural purposes, plays a significant role in the building and infrastructure sectors. Tracking this data by state provides valuable insights into regional production trends, economic contributions, and resource management, helping industry stakeholders and policymakers assess market dynamics and plan for sustainable development.
Analysis of the data reveals that total production increased from approximately 2.29 million metric tons in 2021 to 2.38 million metric tons in 2022, with the total value rising from $413 million to $421 million. Texas remains the leading producer by a wide margin, with production growing from 987,000 metric tons valued at $139 million in 2021 to 1.03 million metric tons valued at $131 million in 2022, indicating a slight decrease in unit value. Vermont also showed notable growth in quantity, increasing from 104,000 to 120,000 metric tons, though its value slightly decreased from $25.3 million to $24.7 million. Connecticut experienced a significant increase in quantity from 10,500 to 37,500 metric tons, accompanied by a modest value rise from $5.22 million to $5.71 million. Conversely, Georgia’s production declined from 140,000 to 132,000 metric tons, yet its value increased from $14.6 million to $15.1 million, suggesting higher prices or improved product quality. Missouri’s value more than doubled from $9.07 million to $23.9 million despite a smaller increase in quantity, highlighting a substantial rise in market value. These trends underscore shifting regional dynamics and evolving market conditions within the U.S. dimension stone industry.
