This table presents detailed information on the quantities and values of various types of dimension stone exported from the United States, categorized by specific stone types such as marble, granite, and slate. This data is crucial for understanding the economic impact and international demand for U.S. dimension stone products, which are widely used in construction, architecture, and monument industries. Tracking these exports helps gauge the competitiveness of the U.S. dimension stone sector in global markets and informs policymakers and industry stakeholders about trade patterns and potential growth opportunities.
In 2022, the total value of U.S. dimension stone exports increased slightly to $48.4 million from $46.9 million in 2021, despite some fluctuations in quantities exported. Notably, worked marble, travertine, and alabaster maintained a steady export value of $10.2 million, although quantity declined from 95,000 to 78,000 metric tons. Canada emerged as the dominant market, accounting for 44% of these exports by value, followed by the Bahamas at 21%. Granite exports showed mixed trends: crude or roughly trimmed granite exports rose in quantity from 14,000 to 17,000 metric tons and value from $4.85 million to $5.88 million, with China and Italy as key destinations. Conversely, merely cut granite exports decreased in quantity but increased in value, with Canada receiving 81% of these exports. Slate exports experienced significant growth in both quantity and value, with worked slate exports rising from 2,000 to 3,000 metric tons and value from $3.07 million to $4.2 million, primarily destined for Canada and the Bahamas. Overall, Canada consistently dominated as the top destination across most stone types, highlighting strong trade ties in this sector.
