In 2023, total U.S. imports of construction sand and gravel increased notably to 4.73 million metric tons, up from 3.82 million metric tons in 2022, representing a significant rise in supply from abroad. The total value of these imports also grew substantially, reaching $145 million compared to $101 million the previous year. Canada remained the dominant supplier, with imports rising from 3.56 million metric tons valued at $66.6 million in 2022 to 4.17 million metric tons worth $110 million in 2023. Other countries showing marked increases include Mexico, whose exports to the U.S. surged from 69,000 to 295,000 metric tons, and Jamaica, which more than tripled its shipments from 34,000 to 118,000 metric tons.
