Construction Sand And Gravel Sold Or Used By Producers In The United States, By Geographic Division

Home > Minerals > Sand and Gravel, Construction

This table presents detailed data on the quantities and values of construction sand and gravel sold or used by producers across various geographic divisions in the United States. This information is critical for understanding regional production trends and economic contributions of these essential raw materials, which are fundamental to the construction industry. Construction sand and gravel serve as key components in concrete, asphalt, and other building materials, making their availability and cost important indicators for infrastructure development, housing markets, and overall economic health.

Analysis of the data reveals that total production increased slightly from 959 million metric tons in 2022 to 967 million metric tons in 2023, while the total value rose more substantially from $10.9 billion to $12.1 billion. The Mountain division led in quantity with 208 million metric tons in 2023, up from 204 million the previous year, and also showed a significant value increase to $2.66 billion. The West South Central division experienced a notable rise in value from $1.64 billion to $1.93 billion despite a modest quantity increase, indicating higher prices or demand. Similarly, the South Atlantic and East South Central divisions saw both quantity and value growth, with the South Atlantic increasing from 72.1 million to 75.3 million metric tons and value from $894 million to $1.04 billion. Conversely, the Pacific division recorded a slight decrease in quantity from 158 million to 153 million metric tons but still posted a value increase. These trends suggest a generally robust market for construction sand and gravel in 2023, with regional variations reflecting differing economic and construction activity levels.
