This table presents detailed data on shipments of Portland and blended cement in 2023, categorized by district and type of customer. The information includes quantities shipped to ready-mixed concrete producers, concrete product manufacturers, contractors, building material dealers, oil well drilling, mining, waste stabilization sectors, government entities, and other customers. This data is crucial for understanding regional demand patterns and the distribution of cement across various industrial and construction sectors, which directly impacts economic activity, infrastructure development, and resource allocation within the United States.
Analysis of the 2023 shipments reveals that the total volume reached approximately 108 million metric tons, with ready-mixed concrete producers accounting for the largest share at 77.9 million metric tons. Missouri led all districts with shipments totaling 9.7 million metric tons, followed closely by California at 9.7 million metric tons and Florida at 8.6 million metric tons. Notably, Texas showed strong activity with northern and southern districts shipping 7.8 million and 9.7 million metric tons respectively. The data also highlights significant shipments to contractors and building material dealers, particularly in Florida and Alabama-Kentucky-Tennessee, reflecting robust construction activity. Importers contributed over 6 million metric tons, underscoring the importance of international trade in supplementing domestic supply. The distribution across customer types and districts illustrates diverse regional demands and the critical role of cement in supporting construction and industrial operations nationwide.
