This table presents detailed data on the quantities and values of portland and blended cement shipped across various U.S. districts for the years 2022 and 2023. It includes shipment volumes in thousand metric tons, total shipment values in thousands of dollars, and average value per metric ton. This information is crucial for understanding regional production and distribution trends within the cement industry, which is a fundamental component of the construction sector. Tracking these metrics helps gauge economic activity related to infrastructure development, housing, and commercial construction, and informs supply chain and market dynamics in the domestic cement market.
Analysis of the data reveals that while the total quantity of cement shipped slightly decreased from 108,000 thousand metric tons in 2022 to 107,000 thousand metric tons in 2023, the total value increased significantly from $14.9 billion to $16.2 billion. This rise in value corresponds with an increase in the average price per metric ton from $138 to $151, indicating higher cement prices overall. Notably, the Alabama, Kentucky, and Tennessee district saw a substantial increase in shipments from 6,599 to 8,041 thousand metric tons, alongside a rise in average value from $138 to $156.5 per metric ton. Similarly, the southern Texas district experienced a sharp growth in quantity shipped, from 8,060 to 9,670 thousand metric tons, with the average value also increasing from $144.5 to $162.5. Conversely, some districts like Maine and New York reported a decrease in quantity shipped, from 2,877 to 2,450 thousand metric tons, despite an increase in average value. These trends highlight regional shifts in demand and pricing that are important for stakeholders in the cement and construction industries.

Table includes data available through March 18, 2025. Even where presented unrounded, data are thought to be accurate to no more than three significant digits. Includes gray and white portland cement. Includes cement made from imported clinker.
The location of the reporting entities, not necessarily the location of sales (see table 9 for sales data, by State). Specific districts include shipments by importers where district assignations were possible.
Tonnages are those by reporting entities in the district but may include shipments into other districts. They differ from the data in table 9, which are the actual reported sales into the specific States.
Values are mill net or ex-plant (free on board) valuations of total sales to final customers, including sales from plants’ external distribution terminals. The data are ex-terminal for independently reporting terminals. Data include all varieties of portland and blended cement and both bulk and bag shipments. Unless otherwise specified, data are presented unrounded. Unrounded or not, unit value data should be viewed as value indicators, accurate to no more than the nearest $0.50 or $1.00 per metric ton.
Average value calculated from unrounded data.
Data are rounded to three significant digits (unit values to the nearest $0.50) because they include estimates.
Importers for which district assignations were not possible.
May not add to totals shown because of independent rounding.
