U.S. Imports For Consumption Of Cadmium Products, By Country Or Locality And Type

Home > Minerals > Cadmium

This table presents detailed data on the quantities and values of cadmium products imported into the United States, categorized by country or locality and product type. Tracking these imports is essential for understanding the supply dynamics of cadmium, a critical metal used in batteries, coatings, pigments, and various industrial applications. The data provides insight into trade patterns, sourcing dependencies, and market trends, which are crucial for policymakers, industry stakeholders, and economic analysts monitoring the health and security of the domestic cadmium supply chain.

Analysis of the data reveals notable shifts between 2021 and 2022. Total imports of unwrought cadmium and powders decreased significantly from 155,000 kilograms valued at $793,000 in 2021 to 99,100 kilograms worth $1,010,000 in 2022, with China remaining the dominant supplier, increasing its shipments from 34,000 to 72,000 kilograms and nearly doubling in value to $780,000. Imports of cadmium oxide more than doubled in quantity, rising from 14,300 to 32,500 kilograms, and more than doubled in value from $210,000 to $506,000, driven largely by Belgium’s increased exports from 10,200 to 26,200 kilograms valued at $447,000. Cadmium pigments also saw a substantial rise in imports, from 101,000 kilograms valued at $1.46 million to 146,000 kilograms worth $1.86 million, with Mexico’s imports nearly doubling to 39,400 kilograms and Spain showing a remarkable increase from 157 to 10,300 kilograms, accompanied by a sharp value increase to $264,000. Conversely, imports of wrought cadmium products declined from 1,510 to 1,020 kilograms, with a corresponding drop in value from $553,000 to $385,000. These trends highlight evolving sourcing strategies and demand shifts within the U.S. cadmium market.
