U.S. Exports Of Bromine And Bromine Compounds

Home > Minerals > Bromine

This table presents detailed data on the quantities and values of bromine and bromine compounds exported from the United States, categorized by specific chemical forms such as elemental bromine, inorganic bromides, and organic bromine compounds. The data include gross weights, bromine equivalent weights, and export values, providing a comprehensive overview of the U.S. bromine export market. This information is crucial for understanding the economic impact and industrial significance of bromine, which is widely used in flame retardants, pharmaceuticals, agricultural chemicals, and water treatment. Tracking export trends helps stakeholders assess market demand, trade relationships, and the competitiveness of U.S. bromine products in the global marketplace.

Analysis of the 2023 and 2024 export data reveals notable shifts in the U.S. bromine export landscape. Total exports decreased from 49,400 metric tons in 2023 to 42,900 metric tons in 2024, with the bromine equivalent dropping from 38,900 to 33,700 metric tons and export value declining from $128 million to $108 million. Elemental bromine exports fell significantly by 25%, from 6,140 to 4,610 metric tons, with Canada remaining the largest recipient at 51%, followed by China and Mexico. Sodium or potassium bromide exports also declined by about 23%, with Guyana dominating as the principal recipient at 92%. Conversely, exports of other bromides and bromide oxides increased slightly in gross weight from 23,600 to 22,300 metric tons but saw a decrease in bromine equivalent and value, with Saudi Arabia, Brazil, and the United Kingdom as key markets. Organic bromine compounds showed mixed trends; methyl bromide exports rose by 25% in gross weight to 2,200 metric tons, with Mexico and Pakistan as major destinations, while ethylene dibromide exports remained negligible. These shifts reflect changing global demand patterns and trade dynamics in the bromine sector.
