This table presents key quantitative and economic data related to bromine, a critical halogen element widely used in flame retardants, drilling fluids, water treatment, and various chemical applications. The data encompass U.S. bromine exports and imports measured in bromine equivalent metric tons, along with their associated values in thousand dollars, as well as global production figures excluding U.S. output. Tracking these statistics is essential for understanding supply and demand dynamics, trade balances, and market trends that influence industrial production and pricing in sectors reliant on bromine.
Analysis of the data reveals notable fluctuations in U.S. bromine trade over the 2020–2024 period. Exports declined sharply from 36,600 metric tons in 2020 to a low of 19,400 metric tons in 2022 before rebounding to 38,900 metric tons in 2023 and slightly decreasing to 33,700 metric tons in 2024. Corresponding export values followed a similar pattern, dropping from $108 million in 2020 to $68.5 million in 2022, then rising to $128 million in 2023 and settling at $108 million in 2024. Meanwhile, imports for consumption increased steadily, from 30,700 metric tons in 2020 to 57,100 metric tons in 2024, with import values rising from $82.1 million to $154 million over the same period. Globally, bromine production excluding the U.S. showed variability, peaking at 435,000 metric tons in 2022, dipping to 398,000 metric tons in 2023, and rebounding to 440,000 metric tons in 2024. These trends suggest a dynamic market with shifting trade flows and production levels, reflecting changing industrial demand and supply conditions worldwide.
