Barite: World Production, By Country Or Locality

Home > Minerals > Barite

This table presents annual global production figures for barite, a mineral primarily used in the oil and gas industry as a weighting agent in drilling fluids, as well as in the manufacture of paints, plastics, and rubber. Tracking production by country or locality provides valuable insight into the supply dynamics of this critical industrial mineral, which can influence market prices, trade flows, and strategic resource planning. Understanding where barite is produced and how output changes over time helps stakeholders anticipate shifts in availability and supports economic and industrial decision-making worldwide.

Analysis of the data reveals that China remains the dominant producer, with an estimated output of 2 million metric tons in 2023, maintaining its position despite fluctuations over the past five years. India showed a significant increase in production, rising from 1.6 million metric tons in 2020 to 2.6 million metric tons in 2023, indicating a strong upward trend. Kazakhstan also increased output steadily, reaching an estimated 650,000 metric tons in 2023. Morocco’s production rebounded from 501,939 metric tons in 2020 to an estimated 1 million metric tons in 2023 after peaking at 1.2 million in 2022. Notably, Bulgaria’s production declined from 75,000 metric tons in 2022 to 59,000 metric tons in 2023. Meanwhile, the United States withheld data for recent years, making its current production unknown. Overall, world production rebounded from a low of 5.91 million metric tons in 2020 to an estimated 8.08 million metric tons in 2023, reflecting recovery in global demand and supply following pandemic-related disruptions.
