This table presents detailed statistics on the quantities and values of aluminum exports from the United States, categorized by different classes such as crude metals, scrap, semifabricated forms, and finished manufactures. Tracking these exports is crucial for understanding the U.S. aluminum industry's role in global trade, as well as its economic impact domestically. The data informs policymakers, industry stakeholders, and analysts about market trends, supply chain dynamics, and the competitiveness of U.S. aluminum products in international markets.
Between 2021 and 2022, the total quantity of aluminum exports increased modestly from 3.17 million metric tons to 3.25 million metric tons, while the total export value rose significantly from $9.35 billion to $11.2 billion. Notably, exports of crude metals and alloys surged by nearly 40%, from 214,000 to 300,000 metric tons, with their value jumping from $616 million to $987 million, indicating strong demand or higher prices for raw aluminum materials. Plates, sheets, bars, and strips also saw a substantial increase in value from $3.73 billion to $4.71 billion despite a smaller increase in quantity, suggesting improved market conditions or product quality. Among manufactures, powders and flakes experienced a remarkable growth in quantity, from 5,070 to 53,000 metric tons, and value, from $27.8 million to $217 million, highlighting a rapidly expanding niche. Overall, these trends reflect a robust aluminum export sector with increasing value generation across multiple product classes.
