This table presents detailed data on the net shipments of aluminum wrought and cast products by U.S. producers, reflecting the volume of aluminum products distributed domestically and to Canada after accounting for producers’ receipts. This information is critical for understanding the supply dynamics and market demand within the aluminum industry, which is a key material in sectors such as transportation, construction, packaging, and aerospace. Tracking these shipments helps gauge industrial activity, economic health, and the competitive position of U.S. aluminum producers in the global market.
Analysis of the data reveals a steady increase in total net shipments over the three-year period from 9.91 million metric tons in 2020 to 11.4 million metric tons in 2022, indicating robust growth in aluminum product demand. Wrought products, which constitute the majority of shipments, rose from 8.12 million metric tons in 2020 to 9.51 million metric tons in 2022, driven primarily by significant gains in sheet, plate, and foil shipments, which increased from 5.19 million to 6.13 million metric tons. Pipe, tube, and extruded shapes also showed consistent growth, reaching 2.68 million metric tons in 2022. Among castings, sand castings experienced the most notable surge, nearly doubling from 208 thousand metric tons in 2020 to 406 thousand metric tons in 2022, while die castings declined from 1.13 million to 1.01 million metric tons. These trends suggest shifting preferences and applications within the aluminum market, with expanding opportunities in certain casting methods and wrought product forms.
