Average Value Of U.S. Imports Of Crude And Dried Bauxite

Home > Minerals > Alumina

This table presents the average value per metric ton of crude and dried bauxite imported into the United States, expressed in both free alongside ship (f.a.s.) and cost, insurance, and freight (c.i.f.) terms. This data is crucial for understanding the cost dynamics of bauxite imports, which directly impact the aluminum production industry and other sectors relying on this raw material. Tracking these values helps policymakers, industry stakeholders, and economists assess market trends, supply chain costs, and the competitiveness of domestic industries dependent on imported bauxite.

Analyzing the data from 2021 to 2022 reveals that Jamaica remains the primary supplier, with its average f.a.s. value slightly decreasing from $29.64 to $29.60 per metric ton, and c.i.f. values holding steady around $29.61. In contrast, Turkey experienced a significant increase in import values, with the f.a.s. price rising from $40.07 to $54.15 and the c.i.f. price climbing from $48.04 to $69.11 per metric ton, indicating a notable shift in market pricing or supply conditions. The weighted average value of imports also increased moderately, from $31.10 to $32.30 f.a.s. and from $33.57 to $33.95 c.i.f., reflecting overall upward pressure on import costs. These trends highlight the varying cost structures among suppliers and suggest evolving market dynamics in the U.S. bauxite import sector.
