This table presents global production figures of alumina, broken down by country or locality, over a five-year period from 2018 to 2022. Alumina, a crucial intermediate product derived from bauxite ore, serves as the primary raw material for aluminum production and finds extensive use in refractories, ceramics, and abrasives. Tracking production volumes by country provides valuable insight into the supply dynamics of the aluminum industry, which is vital for sectors ranging from transportation to construction. Economic and industrial stakeholders rely on this data to assess market trends, identify leading producers, and understand shifts in global supply chains that can impact pricing and availability.
Analysis of the data reveals that China remains the dominant producer, with output increasing steadily from 72.5 million metric tons in 2018 to 81.9 million metric tons in 2022, reflecting a robust growth trajectory. Australia, the second-largest producer, showed a slight decline in 2022 to 19.5 million metric tons from a peak of 20.8 million in 2020. Notably, the United Arab Emirates emerged as a significant producer, increasing alumina production from 1.1 million metric tons in 2019 to 2.43 million metric tons in 2022, indicating rapid capacity expansion. Conversely, Jamaica experienced a sharp decrease from 1.16 million metric tons in 2021 to just 634,000 metric tons in 2022. Total world production rose consistently each year, reaching 140 million metric tons in 2022, underscoring growing global demand. Several countries, including Romania and Ukraine, saw substantial declines in 2022, with Ukraine’s production dropping dramatically from 1.77 million metric tons in 2021 to 300,000 metric tons, likely reflecting geopolitical disruptions.
