U.S. Imports For Consumption Of Zinc Metal Products, By Country Or Locality

Home > Minerals > Zinc

This table provides detailed information on the quantities and values of zinc metal products imported into the United States from various countries and localities. The data is categorized by product type, including unwrought zinc, zinc alloys, waste and scrap, dust and powders, bars and rods, and plates and sheets. Tracking these imports is crucial for understanding the supply chain dynamics of the U.S. zinc market, which supports a wide range of industrial applications such as galvanizing steel, manufacturing alloys, and producing batteries. The import data helps policymakers, industry stakeholders, and analysts assess trade dependencies, price trends, and the overall health of the domestic zinc industry.

Analysis of the data reveals several notable trends between 2022 and 2023. Total imports of unwrought zinc decreased from 762,000 metric tons valued at $2.71 billion in 2022 to 705,000 metric tons valued at $2.24 billion in 2023, indicating a reduction in both volume and value. Canada remained the dominant supplier, accounting for 352,000 metric tons in 2023, though this was down from 378,000 metric tons the previous year. Brazil showed a remarkable increase in unwrought zinc imports, rising from just 10 metric tons in 2022 to 28,900 metric tons in 2023, with a corresponding value increase from $21,000 to $90.6 million. Kazakhstan also saw a significant rise, nearly doubling its shipments from 17,700 to 39,400 metric tons. In contrast, imports from Australia declined sharply by nearly half in quantity and value. For zinc alloys, imports increased from 3,770 metric tons to 4,980 metric tons, with Mexico leading growth in this category. Waste and scrap imports remained steady in quantity but decreased slightly in value. Meanwhile, imports of dust, powders, and flakes decreased marginally in both quantity and value. Overall, these shifts highlight changing trade patterns and supplier dynamics in the U.S. zinc market.
