Salient Antimony Statistics

Home > Minerals > Antimony

This table presents key statistics related to antimony production, trade, consumption, and pricing in the United States and globally over the period from 2018 to 2022. It includes data on primary and secondary smelter production, imports and exports of various antimony forms such as ore, unwrought metal, and oxide, as well as apparent consumption and average prices. This information is vital for understanding the supply-demand dynamics of antimony, a critical metal used in flame retardants, alloys, electronics, and other industrial applications. Tracking these metrics helps policymakers, industry stakeholders, and analysts assess market trends, resource availability, and economic impacts associated with antimony.

Analysis of the data reveals several notable trends. U.S. primary smelter production of antimony declined sharply from 331 metric tons in 2018 to a mere 19 metric tons in 2021, with data withheld for 2022, indicating a significant reduction in domestic primary output. Conversely, secondary production remained relatively stable, fluctuating around 4,000 metric tons annually. Exports of unwrought antimony and antimony articles more than doubled from 921 metric tons in 2021 to 1,820 metric tons in 2022, while antimony oxide exports surged from 1,530 to 2,420 metric tons in the same period. Imports of unwrought antimony also increased steadily, reaching 8,300 metric tons in 2022. Apparent U.S. consumption peaked at 28,200 metric tons in 2021 before declining to 25,100 metric tons in 2022. Globally, mine production decreased from 155,000 metric tons in 2018 to 83,100 metric tons in 2022, reflecting a downward trend in worldwide supply. Meanwhile, the average U.S. price of antimony rose significantly, from $8,410 per metric ton in 2018 to $13,633 in 2022, underscoring tightening market conditions and increased demand pressures.
