Definitie: Deze boeking registreert het cumulatieve totaal van alle overheidsschulden minus terugbetalingen die worden uitgedrukt in de eigen valuta van een land. De overheidsschuld moet niet worden verward met de buitenlandse schuld, die de verplichtingen in vreemde valuta van zowel de private als de publieke sector weerspiegelt en moet worden gefinancierd uit de inkomsten van buitenlandse valuta.
