Hard Red Winter Wheat is a hard, brownish, mellow high-protein wheat used for bread, hard baked goods and all-purpose flour. It can have either hard or soft endosperm.
Hard red winter wheat is seeded in the fall. It is produced in the Great Plains, between the Rocky Mountains and the Mississippi River, and from Texas to the Dakotas and Montana. It’s production accounts for more than 40% of the U.S. wheat crop and constitutes around half of U.S. wheat exports.
Hard red winter wheat is traded at eh KCBT under ticker symbol KW. Contract size is 5,000 bushels quoted in US Dollars,cents and 1/4-cents per bushel. Delivery months include: July, September, December, March and May. Contract is settled physically. Deliverable grades include No. 2 at contract price and No. 1 at a 1 1/2-cent premium.
