Contango

Also referred as normal carry charge market, is the situation where the price of a commodity for future delivery is higher than the spot price, or a far future delivery price higher than a nearer future delivery price, due to the presence of costs to carry. This situation takes place in markets under normal conditions. The opposite market condition to contango is known as backwardation.
