Turnover in accommodation and food service activities in March 2013 in real terms: –3.1% to March 2012
According to results of the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), turnover in the German accommodation and food service activities decreased in March 2013 by 1.1% in nominal terms and by 3.1% in real terms compared with the corresponding month of the previous year. 
41.5 million persons in employment in 1st quarter of 2013
In the first quarter of 2013, the number of persons in employment whose place of employment was in Germany amounted to about 41.5 million according to provisional calculations of the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis). Compared with the same period a year earlier, the number of persons in employment was up by 293,000 or 0.7% in the first quarter of 2013. In the first quarter of 2012, the relevant increase had been 1.4%. 
Nearly half of Germany’s population living in families
In 2011, just under half (49%) of the population in Germany lived in families. As reported by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) to coincide with the International Day of Families on 15 May 2013, this proportion was markedly higher 15 years ago, in 1996, when it stood at 57%. These results are based on the microcensus, the largest annual household survey in Germany and Europe. Family members are defined here as mothers and/or fathers (including step-parents, foster parents and adoptive parents) and minor or major children who live with them in a household. 
March 2013: number of employees in manufacturing increasing by 0.8%
At the end of March 2013, 5.2 million people worked in local units of manufacturing with 50 or more persons employed in Germany. As reported by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) on the basis of provisional results, that was a rise by about 44,000 persons or 0.8% against March 2012. The number of hours worked in March 2013 decreased 7.2% from a year earlier, reaching 674 million – here it has to be considered that there were two working days less than in March 2012.
